Visiting Beaver Meadow
Beaver Meadow is a 364-acre nature preserve in North Java, NY. It features ponds, wetlands with a boardwalk trail, wooded uplands, meadows, an arboretum, and eight miles of well-marked trails. It is the only Buffalo Audubon property with a staffed nature center. While the nature center is temporarily closed for renovations, our rest rooms and water bottle-filling station are open and available to you.
For the safety and comfort of all our guests and the wildlife that take refuge at Beaver Meadow, dogs and other pets are not permitted on the grounds.

Noteworthy:
Most of our trails are low in elevation and difficulty.
You are welcome to bring snacks (or pack a picnic!) to the property but ask that you please be respectful and pick up after yourself. We have a carry-in/carry-out policy as garbage cans are not available.
If you're bringing children, be sure to visit Woodland Way (our nature play area), Storybook Trail, and Fairy House Lane. Nature Play is most suited for elementary-aged children, and located near the nature center. Storybook Trail may be found near the Arboretum, and Field Sparrow Trail will take you there. Fairy House Lane is also located near the Nature Center - just take Beaver Pond Trail to get there.
Easier family trails include Chipmunk Run, Beaver Pond Trail, Old Homestead Trail, and Jenny Glen Boardwalk.
Long Trail is our most challenging trail due to its elevation and length (1.5 miles).
For those with mobility concerns, we offer the Jenny Glen Boardwalk.

Ayer-Stevenson Nature Preserve
Established in 1975, this 20 acre preserve is mostly young forest with a few large older trees and offers a beautiful trail that runs along Little Sister Creek. Wildflowers and wildlife are abundant here, especially songbirds. Shinleaf Pyrola, kingfishers, and golden crowned kinglets are often seen as one strolls through the property. Located at 8041 Dennis Road, Angola New York. Ghost Pond Ghost pond is a 60 acre nature preserve owned by the Buffalo Audubon Society. The trail is approximately .8 miles long and is low to moderate in difficulty. As part of our forest management program the canopy has recently been opened to allow sun spots to warm the ground to encourage new plants and bird habitats. See trail map here. Rose Acres Solitude is always the best word to describe Rose Acres. This is a great place to spend some time away from the hustle and bustle of life. Once a summer home for Mrs Clifford Rose, Buffalo Audubon acquired this this 53 acre preserve in 1975. Host to a variety of habitats including mixed upland woods, a small stream, and a 5-acre beaver pond, wildlife abounds. This is a favorite spot for spring wildflower hikes as species such as trillium, hipatica and clintonia are easily found. Although the beaver has vacated the pond, the dam is intact. See map here.
